Subject: Memorandum requesting
the British Prime Minister for the return of land belonging to Nepal before the
Sugauli Treaty
Your
excellency,
As
a result of the various wars fought between Nepal and Britain, it has been 196
years since Britain proposed the Sugauli Treaty on December 2, 1815. On this
occasion, the Unified Nepal Nationalist Front (UNNF) strongly demands that the
territory belonging to Nepal before the Sugauli Treaty, be returned, as the
Treaty was signed between Nepal and Britain and thus India does not have the
right to continue the colonization of Nepali territory as it received
independence from Britain in August 15, 1947.
As
per the Sugauli Treaty, Nepal lost more than 60,000 square KM of land. For
Britain, the “mother” of democracy to overlook the independence of territories
belonging to Nepal is gross negligence of democracy, independence and human
rights.
Through
this memorandum UNNF would like to appeal to the British government to help
Nepali population to end forever slavery like, unequal and stigmatized tradition
like colonialism, which has virtually been wiped off from the world and show
magnitude in returning the rightful territory of Nepal.
UNNF
would also like to say that this memorandum is another reminder of similar
appeals it had made to the British Prime Minister to consider our demand. We
request you not to take this appeal as a voice of the weak.
It
is our hope that, Britain will abide by its responsibility to pressure India to
give the territory that rightfully belongs to Nepal.
